2010 Mission Trips 

In March of 2010, Team VI went back down to New Orleans to continue to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.  The trip was a huge success!  Our team joined two other church groups and we all volunteered as guests of Cross Roads Missions, of Louisville, Kentucky.  Our work focused on the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans.  Our accomplishments for the week included: 

• Homeless Shelter – We helped with daily operations in the kitchen of a homeless shelter located near the Superdome.
   
• Private Residence #1 – We helped a woman who returned to New Orleans a year and a half after being displaced by Katrina.  She’s now back and is taking care of her elderly mother who recently had a stroke.  She’s also the legal guardian of a 10 year old boy with autism.  Our team helped renovate what will become this boy’s bedroom.  We removed some old flooring and installed a new, solid subfloor.  We also removed some old ceiling tiles and installed drywall.
   
• Private Residence #2 - The ground level floor of this home was under 6 feet of water as a result of Hurricane Katrina.  On Monday, our team finished up some demolition and cleanup of several affected rooms.  For the rest of the week we prepared those rooms for reconstruction and even got started installing drywall.
   
• Hotdog Outreach Night – On Thursday night we set up and ran a free hotdog barbeque event in St Roch Park.  Neighbors from all around the park joined us for hotdogs, drinks, face painting, and general playground sports.  One of the volunteers from another group teaches the Gospel through magic (illusions); he brought some of his props and kept children entertained through the evening!.
